BSW Senior Mental Health Lead Training Resources   

The majority of schools in B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire were provided with Senior Mental Health Lead training between 2021 and 2023 and are now attending the ongoing SMHL network meetings. 

Cohort 4: 15th March 2023 & 18th May 2023.

Cohort 3: 28th September 2022 & 23rd March 2023. 

Cohort 2: 20th January 2022 & 23rd June 2022.

Cohort 1: 10th November 2021 & 23rd March 2022.

B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire Councils provided this course, that was assessed as meeting the required quality criteria to deliver the DfE grant funded senior mental health lead training for schools and colleges. 

How to obtain your grant of £1200

If you have already attended the BSW course, you don't need to apply for another course (using the national DfE course finder), even if prompted when you apply for your grant.

*Schools that have attended the BSW courses will need to provide proof of booking which will need to quote:

Course content

By the end of the course you will have:

  • Understood the role of the Senior Mental Health Lead
  • Explored personal attitudes and values and examined local data
  • Identified those issues pertinent to the pupils in your school and be able to plan to meet these
  • Gained confidence to embed a whole school approach to mental health in school
  • Considered services and provisions within the Local Authority

The BSW course was offered at the Intermediate Level and aimed at the following settings: Primary schools; secondary schools; colleges (sixth-form and further education colleges); special schools; alternative provision
