The Wiltshire Healthy School Programme supports schools to provide evidence that they are meeting criteria in 4 Core Themes:
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (including drug education and sex and relationships education)
- Healthy Weight (including Healthy Eating and Physical Activity)
- Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health
These criteria relate both to the taught curriculum and also to the school's physical and emotional learning environment.
Schools are asked to demonstrate evidence of addressing these themes using a whole school approach, which involves the whole school community.
"Schools will always hold the health, wellbeing and personal development of the children in their care amongst their highest priorities. It is a priority that arises both out of the responsibility they bear for their pupils as whole and rounded individuals and out of a recognition that physical and emotional health forms the essential foundation for successful learning."
