HomeRun
You may have heard about the HomeRun app.
As well as enabling journey sharing and independent travel for pupils, and providing a free messaging and news-feed facility it can provide useful data for your school travel plan.
With an up-to-date travel plan, you can apply for assistance through our Taking Action on School Journeys Challenge (TAOSJ) for measures to support active and more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, scooting, cycling and park-and-stride. So that you can see at first hand how the app works and what it can offer your school, we plan to run a demonstration session later this term.
The potential dates, all at 11am for 1 hour, are:
- 29 June 2022
- 1 July 2022
- 5 July 2022
- 6 July 2022
This will include plenty of time for questions.
If you are interested, please email ruth.durrant@wiltshire.gov.uk stating which dates suit you and also if you would be attending in person (County Hall Trowbridge) or would prefer to attend remotely using Microsoft Teams. For you to find out more about HomeRun, here is a link to the website. The definite date for the session will be confirmed in the week beginning 20 June.
Wiltshire Council have made the smartphone app HomeRun available to all Wiltshire schools, so you can find out more and sign up here https://www.homerun-app.com.
The app helps parents to car share, as well as providing useful information about how people are travelling to school, routes used and parking locations. It can help schools evidence their Healthy Schools accreditation, as well as support a Taking Action on School Journeys funding application.
Parents choose whether or not to download the app, set up their profile and can arrange to car share with other parents. We see that this would benefit a range of schools - smaller rural schools with little alternative to car travel as much as a large urban secondary.
Some of the benefits of the app are summarised in this flyer.
