The Importance of Immunisations

Friday 2nd September 2022

In the new academic year we will be reminding parents and carers of children about to start primary school for the first time, of the importance of being up to date with childhood immunisations.

We have created a poster/graphic/digital screen for this purpose, which has been shared widely throughout Wiltshire to a range of partner organisations and community settings.
As professionals, you will already appreciate that when children first start school, move school or go on to higher education, they are introduced to wider peer groups which can result in transmission of viruses and other illnesses.

So as the new academic year is now starting, whatever the age of the children, please take this opportunity to encourage parents and carers to check that their child’s vaccinations are up to date. This could be as part of the admission or induction process, or in your school newsletters.

Parents and carers are being advised to check their child’s personal child health record (the ‘Red Book’), and to contact their GP practice to arrange a catch up vaccination if required.

This NHS webpage provides information about all the vaccines available at every age.

We hope you are able to collaborate with us to ensure this message reaches the widest possible audience.
