DfE communication to schools on the implementation of RHSE

Thursday 4th June 2020

Following recent school closures, the DfE have written to schools to clarify the implementation of relationships education, relationships and sex and health education (RSHE).

"The Department remains committed to supporting all schools in their preparations to deliver these subjects. In light of these circumstances, the Department wants to reassure schools that they have flexibility over how they discharge their duty within the first year of compulsory teaching."

Schools that will be ready to deliver the requirements set out in the statutory guidance are encouraged to begin delivering teaching from 1 September 2020, although If a school is unable to begin teaching until summer term 2021 they will need to decide how much of the content they will be able to cover and should still be able to demonstrate how they will cover the entirety of the curriculum in the future.

Further details can be found in the letter to schools

A number of Wiltshire schools have been part of the Early Adopter programme, during the last year, and online scheduling of discussions between Wiltshire schools will take place over the next month.
