Call for candidates for UK Youth Parliament

Monday 8th October 2018

Applications are now open for young people aged 11-18 years to stand for election to the United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP).

Wiltshire has three seats on the Youth Parliament, as defined in the attached information.

We hope that Wiltshire schools will be able to promote this opportunity to young people and encourage their participation and involvement.

Youth Parliament offers unique opportunities for those who have an interest in decision-making and in representing the views of peers. These will be young people who want to make positive change and who can, with support, hold their own in some challenging situations.

This year, we are asking candidates to submit a short video of no more than 60 seconds outlining their manifesto.

The deadline for candidate applications is Monday 26 November 2018.

After that time, information about the candidates, how to view the video manifestos, and the voting process will be made available.

Elections will take place between 28 January and 10 February 2019 using text voting.

To retain the validity and integrity of the voting system, we ask that you reinforce to all students that 11-18 year olds only are eligible to vote.

Members of Youth Parliament are expected to take a leadership role in the Wiltshire Assembly of Youth (WAY). Any young person in Wiltshire can be a member of WAY and we encourage youth participation in the forum and welcome all newcomers who wish to get involved.

Thank you for your assistance in promoting this unique opportunity to your young people. For more information contact, 07342 064355.
