Five to Thrive: Attachment, Trauma and Resilience Training
from Knowledge Change Action (KCA)
In Wiltshire, over the past few years, we have been delivering training to promote an attachment aware and trauma informed approach to supporting children and young people called “Five to Thrive”.
This approach focuses on a set of five key principles – respond, engage, relax, play, talk. The principles are easy to convey and ensure a consistent multi-agency approach.

Five to Thrive is an easily accessible model that can be woven into everyday interactions to support recovery from trauma. It is not a replacement for intensive therapy that some people may need, but it is supportive and accessible to all.
The Five to Thrive sequence reflects a process of co-regulation, guidance and support needed for families, children, and young people in this situation.
