Wiltshire webinar: eC-Card app for young people to collect free condoms

Young people aged 16-24 see the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases (STIs) in Wiltshire. Wiltshire Council has commissioned a new app-based condom distribution scheme (eC-Card) that offers free condoms to young people aged 13-24.
The aim of this is to both prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce the rates of STIs in this cohort as well as embed healthy behaviours around contraception use.
The Sexual Health team at Wiltshire Council is currently rolling out a new eC-Card scheme to schools and community organisations, offering free condoms to 13–24-year-olds. This is a Wiltshire-wide scheme but, if you join, will only be available to students enrolled at your school.
The set-up process is easy: simply contact the Sexual Health team at noworries.nhswiltshire@nhs.net and we will send you a short form to fill out to onboard your school and set up a profile on the e-portal. We will then generate a unique QR code for your school, which can be placed on a wall next to where you store your condom stock. Students who have downloaded the app can then turn up, use the app to scan the QR code and the member of staff can hand over the condoms. All stock is bought and pre-packed by the Public Health team, and as long as all collections are done via the app, we will be able to see when your stock is running low and can send you more.
The benefit of this system for young people is that it allows them to collect condoms for free and completely confidentially, updating the more traditional card-based condom distribution schemes for the digital age. The benefit for the venue is there is minimal admin required, and they will be supporting the widening access of free condoms, enabling young people to engage in safe sex whilst helping prevent both unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
