Recruitment for Wiltshire's Children in Care Council

Wednesday 2nd December 2015

Are you currently working with any children/young people aged 12 -25 who you think may be interested in joining CiCC and coming along to the meetings?  We're also interested to hear if you have any CYP you're working with who are placed out of county that might be interested in getting involved in some sort of virtual way.

Please download and display this poster in school.

Although the CiCC has been running for a number of years we are looking for new members to join.

CiCC - Who we are

The Children in Care Council are children and young people age 12-19 (Care Ambassadors) and 19-25 (Care Leaver Ambassadors). We meet to tell decision makers what the issues are for children in care and care leavers. We meet with Senior Managers and Elected Members who are responsible for making important decisions about the lives of children in care in Wiltshire.

Why we do it

We want to make sure that children and young people’s voices are heard and actions are taken about the decisions that affect their lives.

“It’s about making a change and hearing it from the young people who are in it” (Children in Care Council member, September 2014)

How do we do it

Care Ambassadors meet on a monthly basis (with Care Leaver Ambassadors joining meetings bi-monthly) to tell decision-makers what the issues are for children in care and care leavers. Meeting take place in the evenings at County Hall, Trowbridge.

We plan is to carry out an informal induction session in the new year (likely to be early March) where Children and young people will be welcome to come along (supported by their SW/PA) and find out more about the CiCC and meet the current members, some senior managers and councillors, plus Leanne Field and Judy Edwards who support and facilitate the group.

Current CiCC members are very keen for CiCC to be inclusive and be promoted to children and young people with SEND, to increase representation in this area.
