New site needed for Wiltshire Safety Centre

It was announced today that Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority has taken the difficult decision to find an alternative location for its proposed new safety centre.
Over the summer, the Safety Centre Working Group appointed a site contractor and was able to carry out detailed surveys of the preferred location at Wroughton. Unfortunately, this process has identified a number of unexpected issues and it became clear that the project is no longer affordable at Wroughton.
The project could only succeed if it was kept within budget and while generous contingencies had been allocated, the issues uncovered by the detailed surveys went far beyond our worst-case scenario.
Work will continue to work with partners, sponsors and local communities to look for an alternative location to realise this exciting facility.
