Mindfulness offer to Wiltshire secondary schools

Tuesday 14th October 2014

All secondary schools in Wiltshire are being offered access to a programme of Mindfulness training.

Mindfulness is an approach based on meditation which supports people to develop techniques to reduce depression and anxiety. Mindfulness is a tool that teachers can use to support their own resilience. Mindfulness can also be effective in schools for improving a number of outcomes for young people related to emotional health and wellbeing.

It is proposed that one or two teachers from a school could be trained to deliver Mindfulness as part of the school curriculum.

Phase 1 - teachers train to be Mindfulness practitioners (9 weekly evening based sessions + an all-day retreat) and practice Mindfulness for 6 months.

Phase 2 - 4 days of training to deliver Mindfulness

Phase 3 - With session materials school staff will be able to implement the programme in school.
