Delivering RSE, to challenge harmful behaviours and develop healthy relationships

Friday 21st January 2022

Please find here an invitation to Wiltshire secondary schools from Dr Helen Bovill and colleagues from the University of the West of England Bristol.

Dr Helen Bovill - UWE Bristol

Taking part in this project will provide additional support in consulting students about their Relationships and Sex Education as well as delivering this, now statutory, part of the curriculum.

Important and challenging topics will be covered, including healthy relationships, positive gender roles, harmful behaviours, consent, coercion  and pornography.

Ofsted are now asking schools about their provision to prevent and address sexual abuse and promote healthy relationships. This work could contribute to evidence that this being addressed at your school, with support from partners.

In summary this will involve inviting around 16 of your Year 9 students to take part in a focus group discussion - approximately 50-60 minutes long, before April 2022. The school will receive a report and £100 in Amazon vouchers.

Students will also be asked to watch part of a short film called ‘Dare’ developed by Liz Banks and Jo White, two members of the team. ‘Dare’ is a 15-minute drama specifically for young people and explores the impact of social media and internet pornography on young people’s relationship behaviours:

Please respond directly to Helen Bovill helen2.bovill@uwe.ac.uk if you can take part in this research.
